A workforce already built for it

West Bengal has supplied the Indian automotive industry for four decades — foundries in Howrah, engineering MSMEs across the western belt and one of the country's deepest pools of ITI-trained technicians. Electrification does not ask that base to start over; it asks it to retool. The state is backing that transition with dedicated EV parks, capital subsidy on plant and machinery, and a component vendor development programme that connects anchor manufacturers to existing MSME suppliers in the same district.
